Why Calgary Drivers Are Booking Paint Correction Now

Calgary winters are hard on paint. Road salt, gravel, automatic car washes, and UV exposure leave behind swirl marks, fine scratches, and dull oxidation that regular washing will not fix. By the time most people notice it, the damage is already layered into the clear coat.

Paint correction cuts through that damage mechanically. The result is a flat, reflective surface that looks the way it did before years of driving took their toll. It is not a cover-up. The defects are physically removed.

If you are planning to ceramic coat your vehicle, sell it, or simply want it looking its best again, paint correction is the step that makes everything else worth doing. A coating applied over damaged paint locks that damage in permanently. Correction done right protects your resale value and extends the life of whatever protection goes on top.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Wash and Decontaminate

The vehicle gets a thorough hand wash followed by an iron decontamination spray and clay bar treatment to remove bonded contamination. Paint cannot be corrected cleanly over embedded fallout, so this step is done before any machine touches the surface.

45 to 60 mins
2

Paint Inspection Under Lighting

Every panel is inspected under high-intensity LED lighting to map the actual defects. This determines which correction stage is needed and allows Emmanuel to target problem areas without over-polishing areas that do not need it.

20 to 30 mins
3

Machine Polishing

Using a dual-action or rotary polisher depending on defect severity, each panel is worked section by section. The number of passes and pad and compound combinations are adjusted panel by panel to get the best result without removing unnecessary clear coat.

2 to 6 hours depending on tier and vehicle size
4

IPA Wipe-Down and Re-Inspection

Once polishing is complete, every panel is wiped down with isopropyl alcohol to strip away any polish oils that can temporarily hide remaining defects. The vehicle is then re-inspected under lighting to confirm results before the job is signed off.

20 to 30 mins
5

Protection Application or Handoff

At this point the paint is in its cleanest, most corrected state. If a ceramic coating or paint protection film was booked alongside the correction, it is applied now. If not, a sealant or wax is applied to protect the work and you drive away with the result locked in.

30 mins to 2 hours depending on chosen protection

Paint Correction FAQ

Cost depends on the tier of correction needed, the size of the vehicle, and the condition of the paint. PRSTN Autos offers Single Stage, Two Stage, and Multi-Stage correction. Get a free quote and Emmanuel will assess your vehicle and tell you exactly which tier applies and what it will cost before any work begins.
A Single Stage correction on a standard sedan typically takes 3 to 5 hours. A Two Stage on a mid-size SUV runs 5 to 8 hours. Multi-Stage corrections on larger or heavily neglected vehicles can take a full day or more. You will get a time estimate with your quote.
The correction itself is permanent. Swirls and scratches that have been polished out do not come back on their own. What degrades over time is new damage from washing, driving, and the elements. Applying a ceramic coating after correction significantly extends how long the results stay visible.
The biggest thing you can do is switch to a proper hand wash method and avoid automatic car washes. Touchless washes are acceptable. Using a ceramic coating or paint sealant after correction gives the surface a protective layer that makes it more resistant to new swirl marks going forward.
The correction work removes existing defects and those results do not reverse. New defects from post-service washing, driving, or environmental exposure are not covered as they are outside of the detailing process. Emmanuel stands behind the quality of his work and will discuss any concerns at time of handoff.
Over-the-counter scratch removers and all-in-one polish products use very mild abrasives that can reduce the appearance of light scuffs on the surface. They do not remove defects from the clear coat. Paint correction uses professional machine polishers and graded compounds that actually level the clear coat to eliminate defects properly. The results are not comparable.
Paint correction removes defects that are within the clear coat layer, which covers the majority of swirl marks, water spots, oxidation, and light to moderate scratches. Scratches that go through the clear coat into the base coat or primer will not fully buff out. Emmanuel will identify these during the inspection and let you know what is achievable before starting.
Yes, and this is not optional. A ceramic coating forms a hard layer over your paint and locks in whatever condition the paint is in at the time of application. Coating over swirl marks and scratches makes them permanent. Correction first, then coating, is the only order that makes sense.
